Butterick 5786; ca. 1951; The Chemise Dress with its easy, casual lines and straight slim silhouette is the biggest fashion scoop of the year. The sleeves are cut in one with the front yoke and bodice back to give a smooth, natural shoulder line. Dress falls straight from the shoulder in a box silhouette, is then cinched with a belt...this means no fitting problems. The skirt animates its start slimness with a burst of low placed, double kick pleats at the sides. Make in Shantung, line or faille as well as any of the dressier cottons. There are only four main pattern pieces.
